The Bisbee Vine at St. Patrick Church
The idea is committed to paper for church committee approval...
Love One Another

Artist's sketch of
"Love One Another" commemorative tiles.
The Seven Sacraments, in a field of cherry blossoms was firmly in my head. What came out on paper was quite different! Yes, the sepia drawings took shape nicely, with Jesus flanking each end of the seven sacraments.Jesus face on the left was to have been 7 feet in height. His full body on the right was to have been 17 feet tall with His right hand firmly grasping the vine. Both will now be offered in a commemorative tile.

I Am The Vine

Although this 14' Jesus did not become a part of the sepia drawings intended for the church wall it will be commemorated
in a tile known as
"I Am the Vine."
Continuing, the cherry blossoms became huge grape leaves on a sturdy vine, as seen in the actual drawing below. Note: There are no grapes depicted in the drawing, nor have the Sacraments been painted on the wall. Evidentially, Providence took hold and things changed! Graph paper was used to depict the mural in its entirety. Actually, it took three feet of graph paper to accurately depict the 80-foot wall in one-foot increments. Drawing in hand, a meeting was set with the church committee for their approval… hopefully. My husband and I assured the committee members the parish would bear no expense in this undertaking, for which they were most grateful. All went well. Thank the Lord they did not ask when I planned to finish the wall. I’d have missed by years. As with all things it’s not our time, but Gods’.
Before choosing the appropriate medium for the grape vine, the graph paper drawing had to be accurately and then proportionally transferred to the wall. This was accomplished with the help of “volunteers.” Son Eddy, an extremely talented craftsman and Kevin, husband extraordinaire, duplicated the lines from the 3-foot graph paper to the wall. These “volunteers” literally transformed the wall into an 80’ piece of concrete graph paper. By placing snap lines every foot both vertically and horizontally vine and leaves could be placed exactly where intended. Each ½” of graph paper represented a foot of wall.
